Hampton Hill sports area under consultation

Hampton Hill sports area under consultation

A new multi-use sport facility could be built in Hampton Hill by the end of the year.

Richmond Council plans to install the multi-use games area, which would provide year round football and basketball, in Holly Road recreation ground.

The council said it would be located to the rear of the site beside the play area, to ensure existing use of the recreation ground by nearby schools was not impeded.

The council will consult residents on the proposals over the next three weeks.

If the idea is supported, the council will apply for funding through the London Marathon Trust charity.

Councillor Virginia Morris, cabinet member for environment and planning, said: ?Hampton Hill is in need of more activities for children and young people, especially free sports facilities open to all.

?However, if there is strong opposition to these plans we will not proceed with this particular proposal any further.?

Fulwell and Hampton Hill Councillor Malcolm Eady said: ?The local Liberal Democrat councillors are very pleased that the council has learned that it must fully consult before progressing with such projects.

?We have requested that residents in the roads leading to the recreation ground, such as Holly Road, Wolsey Road and School Road, are also included in the consultation process.?
